Oakland Rising is a new formation of 6 social justice organizations who have a long-term, shared vision for building progressive power in, well Oakland. It recently hired a Field Director—Pete Woiwode (pronounced “Woiwode”). Pete graduated from the Univ. of Michigan in 2005, where he led “Voice Your Vote” in 2004 - the largest student-led voter registration drive in the country. After graduating, Pete worked to defeat a deceptive anti-affirmative action proposal, developed and ran a statewide field campaign to increase turnout of progressive voters for progressive candidates, and organized the first ever Michigan Policy Summit, a convening to develop a progressive agenda for the state.
